We have invested in a Customs Clearance Portal to make import and export declarations as easy as possible.
On 1 January 2022 the grace period will end and new procedures will be introduced. We understand these changes and have upgraded our software so that we can continue to provide the highest levels of service without delays at ports.
We can help you make sure you and your customers are prepared for this to minimise delays due to incorrect paperwork.
Our system works on the deferred accounting method which enables importers to settle any VAT directly with HMRC.
To speed up the input process we can accept Commercial Invoice data on an Excel spreadsheet to upload directly to our system. This makes the input process more accurate and efficient however it is not a substitute for a full Commercial Invoice.
Our portal enables you to enter the required consignment details simply from the information contained in the Commercial Invoice together with your vehicle registration and trailer number. You or your team do not need technical knowledge of the customs clearance process.
Alternatively our team can input the jobs on your behalf.
From 1 January, every shipment on your trailer must be pre-cleared in order to produce a GMR (Goods Vehicle Monitoring Reference) before it arrives at departure port. If you do not have a GMR then your vehicle cannot enter the departure area. Our advice is that your trailer does not leave your warehouse until you have all of the GMR numbers for the load on the trailer. This will extend transit times.
We will email a report per trailer once the clearances have been submitted so you can enter the GMR references into your GVMS (Goods Vehicle Movement Service) and your trailer can depart. Once at the departure port your driver will be allowed to board. When your vehicle arrives in UK it can proceed directly to delivery point (unless directed to a Border Control Post for inspection).
IMPORTANT - all international hauliers should register now for the GVMS.
On receiving the Commercial Invoice we will submit clearance on behalf of the exporter, We will send you the DUCR (Declaration Unique Consignment Reference) to input to GVMS to generate the GMR. Your driver can travel to an Inland Clearance Port to collect the T1 document and proceed to departure port. On arrival your vehicle registration number is scanned to check that your GMR number is correct. Your vehicle can then depart from GB.
We have helped many UK businesses, large and small, navigate the new procedures. We can act as your broker for shipments delivered by other carriers as well as delivered by ourselves or our partners.
Our specialist team is trained to spot errors in paperwork which could potentially lead to delays or even fines.
